One step ahead
A
total of three changes took place in team's lineup. Jan Bulis received an upper body
injury and was replaced by Valeyev. The vacant spot in the fourth line was
filled by Denis Abdullin. Finally, Ian White was left off the lineup, having
been replaced by Nikita Khlystov.
First period
Quite soon Admiral scored the
opening goal of this contest as Barbashev sent the puck right past Garnett and into the empty corner. Shortly after Traktor killed off a penalty
and then garnered a PP chance of their own due to Glinkin's efforts. Visitors were quick to capitalize on; simplicity
was key to this goal as Kuznetsov passed the rubber to Ryabykin who
hit a scintillating one-timer that gave no chance to Ivannikov. Riding a surge of momentum, Traktor quickly pulled ahead
as Valeyev picked up a rebounded
puck and sent it between Admiral goalie's pads.
Second period
Some seven minutes passed without any of the opposing teams being able to create
anything substantial attack-wise. And then Admiral suddenly tied the game; the
foreign Admiral line constructed this goal scored by Niklas Bergfors. Hosts
continued to dominate; this flurry resulted in a two-on-one spearheaded by Richard Gynge. Much to the dismay of the hosts, Michael Garnett stopped
this threat and kept the score at bay. Both sides then exchanged penalties, but
neither of the two caused any sort of trouble for the opposition. Traktor had two
scoring chances at the conclusion of the period, but the score remained
unchanged.
Third period
The last twenty began with Garnett and his super glove that caught the shot fired by Grachyov and that was earmarked for a goal. In a similar situation
some minutes later, Kostitsyn could
not outplay Ivannikov, but quickly
redeemed himself, converting a faceoff win by Petri Kontiola.
Unfortunately for the black-and-white, Admiral tied the game one minute later
at the hands of Nikitenko. After a
couple of scoring chances, both teams decided to secure at least one point and
focus on garnering the second in the OT.
OT and shootouts
After a rather uneventful overtime Yevgeny Kuznetsov executed his penalty shot
to perfection and secured a win for the visitors. With eight points out of
possible twelve, Traktor returns home and enters a long 30-day hiatus still at
eighth spot. However, the question of whether Traktor is going to make it to
the playoffs remains open until the beginning of March.
