Today marks 25th anniversary of Asha railway accident
Nine young boys were heading to Krasnodar Krai for summer holidays. The fatal
explosion took place when end carriages of two trains collided, having taken
the brunt of it. Traktor-1973 players were sitting in one of those two
carriages.

These nine children will forever be in our hearts. This team could have been
the best in Traktor history. By then Traktor-1973 had already been two-time Soviet
champion. Unfortunately, this terrible tragedy swept away the lives of the
future of Chelyabinsk hockey.
In remembrance of victims of the Asha accident an annual hockey tournament
is held. Teams from different cities participate in this tournament.
Each year, on June 3 the families of these nine boys visit their tomb to honor
their memory. The next day they traditionally visit the accident site located at
1710th kilometer of Trans-Siberian Railway. This year, Traktor has helped
repair the memorial stone.
- This is the tragedy that concerns all of us. I often remember these young
boys who left this world so early. We will forever remember their names, says
Anatoly Vorobyov, chief administrator of the team.
