2015 Governor Cup. No medals for Traktor

Once again, the offensive lines got shaken up quite a bit compared to the last game. ChistovPestunov and Bolduc formed the top line; Osnovin was back to the second one, Martin Ruzicka – to the third line. The fourth one consisted of Gubarev, Rybakov and Kokuyov. Penkovsky and Mokin were two extra forwards while Pavel Francouz was once again the starting goalie.

Avtomobilist took the initiative early on. Five minutes in, Vitali Popov hit the post, and two minutes later Petr Koukal miraculously could not put the puck away from close range. Soon, Traktor had two consecutive power play chances, but was unable to construct anything substantial. The game was slowly rolling to the first break when, all of a sudden, Yevgeni Mityakin redirected a shot from Alexander Shchemerov into the net.

Not even a minute in, visitors extended the goal margin as Alexei Vasilevsky found the back of the net from the blue line. After that cold shower, the black-and-white rolled up their sleeves and started to create some chances. Mikhail Mokin hit the post, Martin Ruzicka could not beat the pad of Jakub Kovar; closer to the end of the period Gubarev and again Mokin had scoring opportunities but did not manage to change the score.

As it often happened, the third stanza was a stellar affair for Traktor. After failing to capitalize on two-man advantage, hosts kept on pushing, and nine minutes before the horn Osnovin dragged the puck into the attacking zone and fired it at the net; Kovar turned the shot away, but Glinkin got a rebounded rubber and sent in into the net. Two minutes later, Martin Ruzicka scored a fine PP goal after a solo effort and tied the game at two apiece.

Traktor had enough spirit left for the OT, but the winning goal would not come. As a result, the opponents had to decide the winner in the shootouts. For the third time at this tourney, Traktor came up on the losing end of it as Vitali Popov earned the third spot in tournament standings for his team.
