Unlucky Minsk
Traktor’s lineup was shaken up quite a bit after a
goalless defeat from CSKA. Alexandre
Bolduc played his first KHL game, taking a spot in third line’s center; Chistov and Yakutsenya became his linemates. Thus, Ruzicka and Mokin were moved
to the top line. Pare, Pestunov and Klimontov were left off the lineup. Danil Gubarev returned to the fourth line, Nikita Zhuldikov became the
7th defenseman, Semyon Afonasyevsky – the additional 13th
forward. Vasili Demchenko was once again the starting goalie.
Dinamo’s Lukas Krajicek could have become the antihero of the starting period, but both of his penalties were not converted by the black-and-white, despite having a couple of decent chances thwarted by Jeff Glass. Vasili Demchenko kept up with his colleague for some time, but nine minutes into the period, Linglet took away the puck along the boards and passed it to Ryan Vesce who beat Demchenko from close range. The same Linglet-Ellison-Vesce line created several scoring chances before the end of the period, and if it was not for Demchenko, the game could have been decided a lot earlier. Traktor came up with two chances on goal closer to the horn, but Rybakov’s line did not get the puck into the net, just like Glinkin who sent the rubber just high.
Traktor had to kill off two straight penalties at the top of the second period. Forsome time, visitors held their own. Dinamo hit the post once, plus Demchenko put together two tough glove saves to keep the black-and-white in the game. Unfortunately, closer to the end of the second penalty Alexei Kalyuzhny doubled hosts’ lead. Quint could have pulled one back quickly but sent the puck just high of the net. The first long attack of the period from Traktor counterintuitively turned into a Dinamo goal; a three-on-two counterattack ended with the scoring effort by Linglet.
At the start of the third period, Osnovin’s line locked Dinamo in their own zone but did not manage to come up with a goal. However, Dinamo utilized one of their early chances when Vesce upset Demchenko from close range after a nice diagonal pass. That was basically all she wrote, even though the black-and-white tried to pull at least one goal back. Traktor suffers second straight away loss, being unable to score for 120 minutes.
