Yegor Martynov and Maxim Yakutsenya returned
to the lineup; Yegor traditionally accompanied Ilya Davydov in the
second D pair while Yakutsenya played in the third line along with Osnovin and Ruzicka. Alexei Petrov became the seventh D-man, Semyon Afonasyevsky –
the 13th forward.
Vasili Demchenko had a lot of work to do throughout the first period as Ak Bars took a whopping total of 20 shots on goal. Especially tiresome were the four minutes of Ak Bars power play; first, Demchenko stopped a tough shot from the point by Albert Yarullin; then, he somehow was able to deny Azevedo when Justin was hitting a seemingly empty corner. Between those two brilliant saves, however, was a goal scored by Denis Golubev. Traktor had a decent scoring chance when Popov could have tied the game up, yet Rynnäs made a save. The black-and-white had on opportunity to return to the locker room with a respectable goal differential, but Azevedo found his opening and converted a breakaway chance mere five seconds before the horn.
Traktor rolled up their sleeves at the top of the second period. Five minutes in, the black-and-white had a great power play, but Rynnäs turned a Popov one-timer away. Later on, Demchenko saved Traktor after a two on one by the hosts. Nonetheless, Ak Bars soon extended the goal margin to three; Golubev was creating heavy traffic in front of Demchenko while Marek Daloga put on a wrist shot from the blue line that found the back of the net. Two minutes before the buzzer, Azevedo scored his second of the game after he tipped the puck on goal, using his stick as a racket of sorts.
A penalty by Artyom Borodkin led to the only power play goal of this game; Varnakov beat Demchenko with a backhander. This prompted Traktor coaching staff to replace Demchenko with Pavel Francouz. All the black-and-white were able to do was muster a goal scored by the aforementioned Borodkin.
