Second period mishap…again
Several changes took place on Traktor’s lineup for
this matchup. First, Pavel Francouz was
the starting goalie, Alexander Danilishin was his backup. Martin Ruzicka returned to reform the line with Osnovin and Yakutsenya;
this line also became the top one. Korinevsky was replaced by Alexei Kruchinin. As for the D, Novak and Pervyshin were the second pair while Davydov accompanied Martynov in the third D
pair.
Five minutes in, the Pestunov line constructed a fine combination, but the line’s center himself could not beat former Traktorian Georgi Gelashvili. Visitors then had a hard time during two straight penalties as Yugra forwards were pretty determined to upset Pavel Francouz. On one instance, Andrei Ankudinov who is well known for his bullying tactics tried to provoke our goalie by hitting his hockey gear with a stick but quickly went to the ice face first. Back to the scoring chances side of things though; before the break, Yugra’s Ivan Yatsenko and Traktor’s Artyom Borodkin had their opportunities to pull their respective teams ahead, but they were either stopped by the goalie (in Yatsenko’s case) or missed the net just by a whisker.
Francouz saved Traktor two minutes into the second stanza when Vitali Sitnikov tried to tip the puck into the net. Soon, Traktor was once again left with a man disadvantage, and this time Yugra capitalized on it as Ugolnikov scored the go-ahead power play goal. Shortly thereafter, it was hosts’ turn to suffer the same fate as the black-and-white did. However, there was one difference between these penalties – visitors were unable to turn theirs into a goal. Gelashvili stopped Osnovin with a pad save, froze the puck after a Gubarev scoring chance, and outshined Chistov on two occasions with a couple of kick saves. The proverb about not scoring and then allowing worked again; before the break, Yashin and Panov increased their team’s lead to a differential of three.
There was not too much to write home about in the third period, despite a scoring chance gone awry when Gelashvili robbed Pestunov from a sure-fire, almost set-in-stone goal, and a consolation goal scored by Anton Glinkin seven seconds before the horn. Three one, Yugra; Traktor slips further down the leaderboard and returns to Chelyabinsk for a three-game home series.
