Anvar Gatiyatulin: we had many chances on goal but were unable to capitalize
Ilya Vorobyov, Metallurg Magnitogorsk head coach:
- We knew Traktor would rush forward from the very first seconds tonight, and that is exactly what happened. I think tonight’s performance by Koshechkin was the difference maker in this game.
Anvar Gatiyatulin, interim Traktor head coach:
- First off, I would like to thank the fans for their fervent support. Traktor is in a transition period, and this support is what we need most now. My team showed plenty of guts and will to win; we had a huge amount of scoring chances but, unfortunately, were unable to capitalize on them.
Question to Gatiyatulin: A couple of words about the performance of Pavel Francouz, please.
Gatiyatulin: We are a team, and if someone makes a mistake, it is the entire team that corrects this mistake. I would once again reiterate – we had a lot of chances to turn this game around, but we had to convert them which we did not. I hope we will solve this problem in the near future.
Question to Gatiyatulin: Will there now be a strict division between the lines? Also, will the young players from Chelmet get their chance on the main roster?
Gatiyatulin: We have recently been working on power play lines, and I hope that soon there will be a special line that will hit the ice in power play situations. As far as your second question is concerned, yes, of course the young guns from Chelmet will appear here on the main roster, but only those who are ready for it, because you can’t just throw a young player right into the thick of things. They will be training together with Traktor and, step by step, will be approaching the roster of the main team.
Question to Gatiyatulin: Can you please comment on your decision to move Popov to center?
Gatiyatulin: Popov used to play center, and he did a decent job of it. We were trying to find a way to be aggressive in the attacking zone, that is why I made this decision.
Question to Gatiyatulin: Was the fact that tonight was a special night a contributing factor to Traktor’s nervous state?
Gatiyatulin: I think yes, it might have been a factor. I saw a lot of desire to get this win in the eyes of my players; if only, and I hate to repeat myself, but if only we could convert all these scoring chances we created tonight.
Question to Vorobyov: Was tonight’s game plan the one that you want to see your players stick to in every game going forward?
Vorobyov: Pretty much, but we have a lot of work to do to sharpen the rough edges, if you will.
Question to Vorobyov: Please evaluate the performance of the newly acquired Denis Osipov.
Vorobyov: I think he did pretty well in these two games that he participated in. Actually, we signed him to add some stability in the D, but if he does finish attacks every once in a while like he did tonight, we would only be happy.
