Quint was left on the bench once again as Yegor Martynov quickly rehabbed from
his cold. Also absent from the lineup was Dmitri
Pestunov; thus, Afonasyevsky was
accompanied by Gubarev and Osnovin in the second line. Alexander Rybakov returned to the third
line to play alongside Glinkin and Kokuyov. The only change taking place
in the defensive lineup was Klimontov and Zhuldikov swapping their spots
in the D pairs.
Four versus three – that is the amount of shots on goal taken by both teams in the first period, and these figures best describe the opening segment of the game. Nonetheless, even measly seven shots yielded a goal scored by Stanislav Kalashnikov on the power play. The black-and-white had a semi-decent chance on goal when Afonasyevsky found Gubarev with an accurate pass. Unfortunately, a Yugra D-man was able to block the shot, and the puck went high of the net.
The second period started off in the same vein as the first one ended until Filip Novak and Andrei Ankudinov decided to spice things up with a nice little brawl, broken up by the officials in an untimely fashion. After both perpetrators settled down on the sin bin, hosts tied the game up. A PP opportunity resulted in a Kruchinin goal; Alexei has been on fire as of late, and how great would it be if this hot streak were to be extended into postseason…Nonetheless, the black-and-white applied some heavy pressure on Yugra and were close to pulling ahead, but in one of the instances, Alexander Akmaldinov was able to sweep the puck away right from the goal line to keep the score tied.
Yugra pulled ahead early in the third; Pavel Medvedev first hit the bar, then picked up the rebounded puck and sent it into the net. The black-and-white, however, responded quickly when Shinin found Popov who utilized a breakaway, hitting the top corner with a blistering slapshot. Traktor made every effort to quickly take the lead and paid for it. Yugra used another power play opportunity to seize the advantage for the third time in this game at the hands of Ivan Yatsenko. Two minutes before the horn, Osnovin could have turned this contest into OT, but former Traktor goaltender Georgi Gelashvili saved visitors there. Some 40 seconds before the end of it, Yakutsenya and Gelashvili squared off in a fistfight after Max and the goalie tangled with their sticks on the crease. Yugra goaltender was ejected, but this did not affect the result of the game. Traktor now has only mathematical chances of prolonging the regular season into the postseason.
