Several changes took place in the black-and-white’s lineup compared to Tuesday game versus Ak Bars. Pavel Francouz became the starting goalie. Ilya Zinovyev replaced Artyom Sevankayev in the second line (Sevankayev was benched altogether), while Artyom Penkovsky took a spot in the traditional youngster line. Recent debutant Yevgeni Petrikov was placed in the third D pair, and Danil Mamayev joined Konstantin Klimontov in the fourth defensive combination.

Traktor managed to score an early goal, a thing that is oh so important, especially in the road. After some heavy forechecking by the visitors, Sharov fed Penkovsky who beat Yezhov with a strong and accurate one-time shot. Three straight penalties received by the black-and-white gave Lada an opportunity to get back into the thick of things. However, the score remained intact, despite those three chances. Closer to the end of the first segment, Traktor regained the initiative. Visitors’ fourth line was very impressive during these minutes, once completely locking Lada in their own zone.

At the top of the second period, Traktor continued some impressive forechecking, which predictably led to a penalty by veteran Vladimir Malenkikh. During of those, Max Yakutsenya sent a fine pass to Jiri Novotny, but the latter’s shot went straight into Ilya Yezhov’s stomach. Sometime later, Lada was punished with two consecutive minors, and, just like two days earlier against Ak Bars, the black-and-white capitalized on this chance – Paul Szczechura doubled the lead. Before the break, Georgi Belousov could have pulled one back on a breakaway but hit the bar.

As expected, this game’s third period was somewhat academic. Traktor paid plenty of attention to defense, and Lada attempted to make something work. Despite these attempts, the black-and-white did their job well. Lada head coach Artis Abols pulled the goalie late in the game, but it resulted in an empty-netter scored by Konstantin Klimontov.

Traktor completes this road series with the game against Neftekhimik, which takes place on Orthodox Christmas day.
