Anticipating playoffs

to the Wednesday head-to-head game, only two changes took place on the Traktor
lineup as Vasili Demchenko and Danil Gubarev replaced Pavel Francouz and Artyom Penkovsky.
It was noticeable throughout the entire tilt that neither team was influenced by pressure of the regular season standings etc. Players were relaxed and trying to show off in some kind of way. Metallurg had the only goal in mind, and that was to help Sergei Mozyakin finally garner his 1000th career point. Both Magnitka and Traktor were disciplined as the first penalty came late in the second. Mozyakin was very close to his milestone early in the third twenty; he fed Kovar, but Metallurg top line’s center could not beat Demchenko who made an awesome pad stop. Late in the third, hosts acquired a power play opportunity and, as one would expect, the entire logistics of this power play segment was based on Sergei Mozyakin. Nonetheless, the regulation time was not enough for two neighboring teams, and the game rolled into overtime.
Magnitka was applying some heavy pressure early in the OT, but a penalty by Chris Lee gave the black-and-white to punish Metallurg for their negligence. However, it was not meant to be as Ilya Samsonov was adamant to shut this game out as well. The shootout series began with a Vitali Kravtsov goal. However, this was the only positive for Traktor because Lee and Santala gave hosts a two-point victory.
The regular season is now over for both teams. The postseason will begin on Tuesday as the Western Conference teams will square off. Eastern Conference will begin playoffs on February 22, and this will be when Traktor and Barys are going head to head in game 1 of the series.
