Alexei Volkov is new general manager of Traktor Ice Hockey Club
2-year contract for new GM.
Alexei Volkov was born on March 15, 1980, in Yekaterinburg. The product of Yekaterinburg hockey. that later was named a Master of Sports of International Class, began his career with SKA-2-Avtomobilist. Volkov played for 20 years on the position of goaltender. After SKA-2-Avtomobilist the future general manager played one season for Krylya Sovetov-2 and then moved overseas, in 1988 he was drafted by the NHL Los Angeles Kings in the 3rd round #76 overall. In North America he played for Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL), New Orleans Brass (ECHL) and Lowell Lock Monsters (AHL). In his first season with the Halifax Mooseheads he won the Raymond Lagacé Trophy.
After coming back to Russia, the goaltender played for Salavat Yulaev Ufa, Dynamo Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Vityaz Moscow Region, HC MVD Moscow, Atlant Mytishchi and Kuban Krasnodar (VHL). Volkov won the Gagarin Cup in 2012 and played in the Gagarin Cup finals in 2010.
Alexei Volkov has also played for the U18, U20 and mens` national teams of Russia. In 1998 he got U18 EJC bronze medal, in 1999 he won U20 gold medal and the next year the player had the silver one.
After retirement he worked as a general manager assistant in 2015-2018 for Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg and later as senior specialist of scouting department in CSKA that resulted in the Gagarin Cup of the 2018/2019 season. Last two seasons Volkov worked as a general manager for Avangard Omsk, in 2021 the team won the Gagarin Cup.

Chelyabinsk is a city of great hockey traditions and it was important for me to join the team with great ambitions. It is also important that those ambitions are connected with cooperation of the coaching staff, the team, front office and, the last but not least, fans. Then we will achieve everything.
