Yegor Dugin: we can’t allow any mistakes in the playoffs
You were named the best forward of regular season’s last and most
intense week.
I am very glad to receive this award. By the way, it was my parents who told me about it. After a training session Vladimir Krechin and my teammates congratulated me, and I was pleasantly surprised by this.
Is the nerve of the playoffs taking its toll already?
I have played for Traktor in playoffs before, so I have some experience in this department. We are thoroughly preparing for the playoffs, focusing on our physical conditions and certain aspects of the game. Besides that, we are motivating ourselves psychologically, because it is one of the most important things to do. We can’t allow any mistakes in the playoffs; you make one – you’re done.
Do you think it’s important to begin the series on home ice?
I think having a home field advantage is like having a sixth man on the ice. I hope we will make our fans happy.
What do you make of Traktor’s first opponent, Barys?
During this season I played twice against Barys. It’s a very disciplined team with a very renowned coach at the helm, Vladimir Krikunov. However, decent regular season doesn’t guarantee great showing in the playoffs. Hockey is unpredictable; you can have you odds-on favorite get busted in the first round while the eight place finisher can march straight to the finals.
Could you call Barys a comfortable opponent for Traktor?
I think we are going to find out as soon as the first round ends.
In what shape is Traktor stepping into playoffs?
We won all our matches in February which might be the most important factor heading into playoffs. So if we are talking about confidence level, there’s no lack of it.
Is Traktor’s relatively young roster an advantage or a disadvantage?
I think the former. We are young and quick and hungry for victory; that’s definitely one of our strong sides.
