Traktor sets a new record for the first round of playoffs
Never before has a team scored
25 goals in the first round of playoffs.
Traktor’s first line that performed
on par with other lines only in game #5 stepped aside in game #7, and the
second line took over. In game #7 Kontiola scored twice, garnering a total of nine points in this series; Yakutsenya scored and assisted once;
and it was only after that Deron Quint garnered a goal for the first
line.
It was Barys’ fifth allowed
goal that prompted Vladimir Krikunov to change the goaltender. Pavel Poluektov, thrown right into heat of things, looked well but
couldn’t withstand so much pressure and caved in in game #7. Poluektov’s
substitute, 19 year-old Vladimir Kramar was able to keep a clean sheet,
but it did not help Barys much.
In the end Barys lived up to the
trend observed throughout the regular season; the Kazakh team was one of the
most scoring teams while still allowing more than any other team in the
playoffs. Therefore, with an impressive tally of 22 goals Barys is now out of
the title contention.
