Gagarin Cup Finals, game 2. Dynamo vs. Traktor - 3:2. Press-conference after the match
Valery Belousov, Traktor’s head
coach:
It’s
always a stinging loss when you had it all and then lost it in 20 minutes.
Alas; those who make fewer mistakes are always victorious in the playoffs.
Oleg Znarok, Dynamo’s head coach:
We had a slow start, and it was the second goal that
woke us up. My boys are resilient! I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention our fans;
with support like theirs we simply can’t lose!
Question to Belousov: All three goals in Traktor’s net were from far range…
Belousov: Agreed, these goals were unnecessary. I have a rule though – never berate goaltenders in the playoffs. Michael was either blocked
or Dynamo’s players fired great shots when these goals were being scored.
Question to Belousov: Once again you switched to three lines during the
game. Why?
Belousov: Do you think I have much choice? Traktor needs centers; Nesterov has been playing
center for quite some time; tonight Popov got injured. I had to do this.
Question to Belousov: Traktor’s in the charted waters, so to speak – you are
trailing 0-2 in the series. Is that your plan?
Belousov: I can only say one thing – two battles were lost,
but the war continues. We will fight until the end and we will figure Dynamo
out.
Question to Znarok: Shifts seem to be Dynamo’s Achilles heel. Why?
Znarok: I don’t think there was a penalty tonight, that’s
exactly why I tried to object to referees’ decision. My player was heading
towards the bench, and the puck hit his skate – does that qualify as a penalty?
As a result, we were left three on five. But hey, when Traktor did the same
thing, referees didn’t even notice that! We had to bring this fact to their
attention.
Question to Znarok: Is Novak going to be back this season?
Znarok: He attended today’s training session. He will
play in the next two matches. Yes by the way, another thing – after game 1 I
said I couldn’t call Traktor my home team, and the rumors and speculations
began circling around. I played for Traktor when I was young; I have nothing to
do with today’s Traktor.
