2013 Governor Cup. First tournament victory for Traktor
Some
changes were made in Traktor's line-up. The only lines left unchanged were the
first and third ones. Flyagin and Guskov swapped places, Dugin was replaced by Bulis, Tsybin moved to the right; Sayustov became fourth center, thus Popov played a wing forward. Kokuyov and Dugin became extra forwards while Fokin took his place in the nets.
First period
Neftekhimik offered Traktor the
power game, and the home team gladly obliged. Visitors were more active at the top
of the period - Demagin and Alshevskiy were both neutralized by Fokin.
Traktor replied with Bulis' scoring chance gone awry.Neftekhimik found a way to come
back with Demagin's one-on-one that was stopped in a brilliant fashion
by Fokin. Then, nothing substantial happened until the
horn, except a couple of penalties, and the teams headed toward their
respective locker rooms.
Second period
The second twenty pretty much
resembled the first one with one exception - Traktor finally opened the score. Both
teams were kind of phoning it in for the first half of the period. Eventually though,
Traktor managed to pressure the visitors into a penalty and capitalized on it. Chistov crawled to the crease, and Kuznetsov was the quickest to add the
puck into the net - 1:0. Neftekhimik did not want to put up with this
state-of-affairs and became more active on the offensive end. Two penalties for
Traktor made things look a little grim, and if it wasn't for Fokin, the score might have been
different.
Third period
Traktor looked
dominant in period number three. One minute into it Panov and Ryabykin had decent chances on goal; later on Traktor's new eight, Dmitry Tsybin,
could seal the deal, but Sudnitsyn was there for Neftekhimik. Midway
through the period Traktor's resident Finn Petri Kontiola outsmarted
four opposition players, which left Panov alone on the far post - two nothing
with little time for Neftekhimik to try to change things. Getting a bit ahead,
visitors just failed to do so. In the closing moments of the match Vlad Fokin made some memorable saves, securing a shutout victory.
