Governor Cup goes to Traktor for the first time in tournament history

Michael Garnett was named #1 goalie for the game. One more change took place in the third line where Bulis was replaced by Dugin.

First period
The first twenty of the game was arguably the most stellar of the whole tournament. Traktor's fourth line was on fire, and that resulted in a quick goal - Popov turned the puck over on the blue line and hit a nice backhander to open the score. Traktor kept the pedal to the metal and quickly doubled the lead - newly crowned captain Konstantin Panov found a recess between Koshechkin's pads. Shortly after Magnitka got a power play and besieged Garnett's domain. Michael was flawless, even though he was saved on two occasions by goaltender's best friends - a post and a bar. The game was approaching to the boiling point head first. As a result, a little brawl between Timkin and Vasilchenko occurred. Consequently, Traktor had a two-man deficit for almost a minute, but fended Metallurg off to triple up the score - Panov scored his second goal of the night, nipping any Metallurg's hopes for this game in the bud.

Second period
The period began with rendezvous between Zaripov and Garnett - score remained intact due to Michael's brilliant stop. Traktor then received another power play chance and could put Metallurg away for sure, but trademark combo Chistov-Kuznetsov gave a misfire that time. The opponents then chose to take a breather until Traktor broke the silence with patented lace in the attacking zone. Alas, eye-pleasing, but only goal-teasing - same 3:0 before the final break.

Third period
Metallurg had three power play chances throughout the period, being able to capitalize on only one of the three - Mozyakin, who looked great in the final twenty, wrapped around the net and finally spoiled a potential clean sheet for Garnett. Visitors felt they could still turn the game around and turned on the Canadian hockey mode with avalanches of checks and non-stop action. Nonetheless, Traktor remained in control; in rare instances when they did not, Garnett turned away the threats. The final buzzer drowned in applause. Traktor wins the home tourney for the first time ever as Garnett and tourney's leading scorer, Konstantin Panov (3 G, 1 A), are named co-MVPs of the 2013 Governor Cup.
