Romazan Memorial Tournament. Traktor finishes third in overall standings
Coaching
staff made some changes to the lineup. Ryabykin was back in action, completely
healing from a minor injury, whereas Kokuyov was left off the lineup.
First period
Traktor
constructed the first attack of the match - Dugin could not outplay
Metallurg's #2 goalie, Aleksandr Pechurskiy. It did not take long for the hosts though to pull ahead - Zaripov took an accurate half zone shot
to make it 1:0. Traktor answered back momentarily; Kuryanov and Chistov had the chance to tie it up - Pechurskiy was confident and did not
allow anything. Right after that Traktor was left 4-on-5; during these trouble
times Garnett had to stop a vicious
slapshot by Chris Lee. Valery Belousov was in the mood conducive to experiments, thus Kostitsyn, who started out as second
line's center, was moved to the left while Bulis returned to his well-familiar position on the ice. Both teams took a breather
right until the last minute when Dugin averted a sure-fire goal, disposing of the puck fractions of a second before O'Reilly could put it away. 0:1 as the opponents headed for an intermission.
Second period
Mozyakin and Antipin could double hosts' lead right off the bat, but there was one man who had
something to say about it - Michael Garnett. Those two shots must
have angered Traktor quite a bit, and the black and white team quickly tied the
game at the hands of Popov. But the
score was not tied for long - Grigorenko quickly pulled hosts ahead for
the second time in the match. The opponents continued to throw wild punches;
Traktor barely avoided hitting the canvas when Potekhin hit the post. Visitors
got back at Metallurg with Kostitsyn's uppercut going just wide of the
goal. Metallurg then got closer a knockout blow when Mozyakin converted
a power play chance. Before the horn Traktor
had a scoring chance at the hands of Dugin and a power play attempt, but did not gain any dividends.
Third period
Ryabykin could pull one back in the
very first shift, but missed the corner by an inch. Some time later the
third line created another scoring chance, but Pechurskiy stopped the threat.
That was the last breath of life for Traktor in this game; O'Reilly and Timkin
formalized the rout. 5:1 the final score; Traktor takes the third place in the
overall standings and two individual prizes in tow.
