Sergei Makarov to be inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame
Sergei Makarov is a forward, Honored Master of Sports of USSR and
Voskhod and ChTZ Sports Club alumnus. He was with Traktor for three years
(1975-1978) and a winner of the first ever bronze medals in team’s history.
Makarov is a 2-time Olympic champion (1984, 1988), 1980 Olympics silver
medalist, 8-time world champion (1978, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989,
1990), 13-time USSR champion (1977 to 1989), 2-time USSR Cup Winner (1979,
1988), Challenge Cup winner (1979), Canada Cup winner (1981), and Calder Trophy
winner (1990). In 2001, Makarov was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame. He is also an all-time best goalscorer among
Soviet and Russian hockey players in official games with an impressive tally of
714 goals.
Makarov will be
inducted on November 14, 2016, along with Pat Quinn (posthumously), Eric
Lindros, and Rogie Vachon. Makarov is the seventh Soviet and Russian hockey
player to get the ultimate honor in hockey; the six others are Vladislav
Tretyak, Valeri Kharlamov, Vyacheslav Fetisov, Igor Larionov, Pavel Bure, and
Sergei Fedorov.
