Birthday of Valery Belousov
On December 17, 1948, in Novouralsk there was born a boy whose destiny was to become the main person of the Chelyabinsk hockey, this boy was Valery Belousov. He began to make his first steps in hockey in Novouralsk as well, and joined local team "Kedr", his first head coach was Ivan Boltunov.
He was noticed by the Chelyabinsk in 1970 when the forward became the best goal scorer of the Yunost Ice Palace tournament. He was invited to Traktor by Viktor Stolyarov. Seven years later, Valery Belousov with the "C" on his chest led Traktor to the bronze medals of the USSR championship. He was the best goal scorer and point leader of the season with 49 points (20 goals, 29 assists).
Today this great player and coach would have turned 71. He passed away too early and left the fans deeply saddened.
Coaching career
1990-1995 – Traktor Chelyabinsk, 2-time MHL bronze medals (1993, 1994).
1996-2003 – Metallurg Magnitogorsk, 2-time champion of Russia (1999, 2001), Russian Cup winner (1998), 2-time Euroleague champion (1999, 2000), European Supercup holder (2000), Russian Championship silver medals (1998), 2-time bronze medals (2000, 2002), Spengler Cup runner-up (1999).
2003-2007 – Avangard Omsk; Russian champion (2004), European Champions Cup holder (2005), Russian Championship sliver (2006) and bronze (2007) medalist, Continental Cup runner-up (2007).
2008 - Belousov returned to Metallurg Magnitogorsk and became Champions League runner-up (2009).
Since October 2010 – Traktor Chelyabinsk. In 2011/2012 he led the team to Continent Cup and Gagarin Cup semifinals. In the very next season, Belousov led Traktor to team’s biggest success ever – Gagarin Cup finals.
In 2012 Valery was inducted in the Russian Hockey Hall of Fame.
